Landlords helping the homeless

For every newly managed property taken on, Cambridge Property Lettings are committing to give £100 to Cambridge-based charity ‘Jimmy’s’. Jimmy’s offers short-term and emergency accommodation for men and women who would otherwise be homeless in Cambridge.

Trevor Hames, CPL Chairman, explained: ‘For some time we have wanted to support a homeless housing charity and Jimmy’s is just 2 minutes' walk from our office in Newmarket Road. Also, with our Head of Lettings, Angela Grant, being one of their 200 volunteers Jimmy’s seemed the ideal fit.’

Jimmy’s have the facilities and staff to provide accommodation, support and resettlement to 26 homeless men and women at any one time. With over 20 years experience of providing help for the homeless, it is a place of hope where change is not just a possibility but a reality. Much more than just providing food and a bed for the night, Jimmy’s strive to enable people to regain confidence and independence and develop a settled lifestyle.

This life transformation is achieved through an impressive range of services on offer for residents, such as support and advocacy when attending appointments, help with finding a more suitable place to live long-term and sessions to help build basic skills such as budgeting, cooking, dealing with authorities, IT, managing debt and living independently. Specialist staff are available to help deal with alcohol and substance misuse, mental health issues, support for ex-Service personnel and counselling. Internet access enables personal research and contact with friends and family and there are also a range of leisure activities on offer including sports and creative workshops plus signposting to other activities locally.
