Cambridge is breaking records this summer
The weather station, at Cambridge University Botanic Garden recorded the highest ever officially recorded UK temperature last Thursday 25th July.
The reading of 38.7C (101.7F) beat the previous record of 38.5C (101.3F) set in Kent in 2003.
The equipment had to be officially checked by the Met Office on Monday before the record could be verified. The staff at the Botanical Garden have been measuring the temperature and recording weather conditions since 1904 and are incredibly proud that their data has been useful to the Met Office in defining the scale of the heatwave, however it does highlight the fact that our climate is getting hotter and the Botanic Garden's director Beverly Glover expressed dismay at the consequences these changes will have on the plants and animals around us.
